Metro53 - LAHORE (Web Desk) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the cancellation of all Basant events following the suicide attack at an Islamabad Imambargah.
In a statement on social media platform X, Maryam Nawaz said, “In light of the Islamabad tragedy, I am canceling all Basant activities scheduled for tomorrow.” She added that the mega Basant show at Liberty Square will also be called off.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of national unity, stating, “It is crucial for the nation to remain united against the scourge of extremists and their supporters, show no leniency, and stand shoulder to shoulder with our armed forces in defending the country.”
Earlier, the CM had announced celebrations from February 6 to 8, with the main event scheduled at Liberty Chowk, Lahore on February 7, inviting citizens from across the province to participate.
Basant festivities had already begun in Lahore last night, with people flying kites. Despite administrative claims of ensuring safety, one person died and several others were injured after a kite string-related accident.
