Metro53 - Kunjah (By Taib Hussain): Traders in Kunjah observed a complete shutter-down strike on Monday against what they described as unjust harassment by the Para Force. The decision was taken unanimously by all trader organizations during a meeting held a day earlier, which was attended by more than 100 traders from Kunjah.
As a result of the strike, all commercial activities in Kunjah came to a complete standstill, with buying and selling fully suspended. Following the shutdown, traders decided to proceed to the Gujrat Deputy Commissioner’s Office to seek approval of their demands.
A delegation of Kunjah traders presented their demands before Deputy Commissioner Gujrat, Ms. Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi. Taking immediate action, the DC contacted the DC Para Force Gujrat and conveyed the concerns raised by the traders.
The Deputy Commissioner approved the traders’ demands, directing that tarpaulin sheets inside the market be removed and replaced with aesthetically pleasing net canopies. Permission was also granted to extend canopies up to three feet inside the market and up to four feet outside the market.
Following the acceptance of their demands, Kunjah traders called off the strike, reopened their shops, and restored business activities to normal.
The traders’ delegation was led by Muhammad Shabbir Saifi, President of the Anjuman Karyana Merchant Association Kunjah, and Nasir Iqbal, Vice President of the Karyana Association Punjab, along with a large number of local traders.
