Metro53 - MUZAFFARABAD: A Pakistan Army Aviation MI-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad after developing a technical fault during takeoff, resulting in the martyrdom of all personnel on board, according to the military's media wing.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the helicopter met with an accident shortly after takeoff due to a technical malfunction. Rescue and recovery teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site.
The military said all personnel aboard the aircraft embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. A Board of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact technical causes of the accident.
Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces expressed profound grief over the loss of precious lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army also paid tribute to the sacrifices of the martyred personnel.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the tragic incident and paid tribute to the fallen servicemen. He prayed for the elevation of the martyrs' ranks and for patience and strength for their families, stating that the nation salutes the sacrifices of its brave sons.
President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his condolences, expressing solidarity with the families of the deceased. He said the nation stands united in honouring the sacrifices of its martyrs and shares the grief of their loved ones.
The tragic accident has once again highlighted the risks faced by military personnel while carrying out operational and training duties across the country. Authorities said further details would be released following the completion of the inquiry.
