Metro53 - GUJRAT: A police operation in the jurisdiction of Saddar Jalalpur Jattan Police Station took a dramatic turn when four armed men allegedly opened fire on police officers and freed a suspect from custody before fleeing the scene.
According to police officials, the incident occurred while officers were transporting a detained suspect. Two motorcycles carrying four armed assailants intercepted the police party and launched an attack, enabling their accomplice to escape from custody.
Police immediately initiated a pursuit and launched a search operation in the surrounding area. During the operation, an injured suspect identified as Adnan Shehbaz, a resident of Chak Gojra in Mandi Bahauddin district, was taken back into custody near Thamka Graveyard.
Authorities said the suspect had sustained injuries during the firing, allegedly from shots fired by his own accomplices. He was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment under police custody.
Police further revealed that Adnan Shehbaz was wanted in multiple criminal cases, including cattle theft, and was reportedly involved in at least 11 registered cases.
A district-wide search operation and checkpoint crackdown have been launched to apprehend the remaining suspects who managed to escape.
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to arrest the fugitives and bring all those involved in the attack to justice, while further investigation into the incident continues.
